Massage & Relaxation Therapies

It is not our intention to tell women how to birth. We believe each woman already has the
answer  to that question inside of her. Our goals are to reduce stress to mom and unborn
child through massage services,  to put fear in perspective and help her recognize her
individual ability through childbirth education and to provide a long list of  personalized
labor support techniques and  encouragement  through Doula work.

She is full and radiant with life.
This transformative and reflective
time is one of the most holy  in a
woman's life. She seems to take on
a new glowing wisdom. The
metamorphosis of the female body
and her awe inspiring display of
love and determination is
unparalleled. She was created to
birth, to be a mother. Even if she
never carries life in her womb
literally, she still creates and
mothers. Women are the
personification of all that is
nurturing, gentle, wise and loving.
They bare life and support and
encourage growth. They do this as
if  they were sent from the ethers
with a mission. Every woman can
be a birth goddess.

Though pregnancy should be a time of great
empowerment for a woman, sometimes she may lose
sight of her beauty and strength. The reasons vary as
greatly as each woman. Some may feel as though they do
not have enough support (the way they need it). Some
may struggle with physical ailments common
throughout pregnancy or be fearful of labor and birth.
Some may fear or question their ability to be a good
mother or have poor body image while still others may
simply just need a bit of reassurance. The list goes on
and on. What it all comes down to is this: Stress,
regardless of its origins (fear, lack of support, etc)  can
be detrimental to a mother and her unborn child. Stress
can be linked to a plethora of complications from
erratic fetal heart tones to stunted  development or
premature birth. It can cause an actual "programming"
of the fetus' nervous system for a heightened reaction to
stress which would predispose the unborn child to
greater risk of stress related disease and heart attack in
the future. Of course the same goes for mom. Stress or
worry or fear, because of the activation of "fight or
flight" hormones (which are the antithesis of birthing
hormones) can also lead to slow labor which can lead
the way to many possibly unwanted medical
interventions.

Taken from the Greek meaning, woman’s servant or in the service of the woman. A doula
provides overall emotional and physical support to the pregnant woman prenatally, during
labor and birth and immediately postpartum. She can provide support to other family
members as well. She believes and trusts in the ability of each woman to birth the way she
wants to. She helps to empower, educate about birth options and other related topics and
advocates to help you attain whatever vision you have for your birth. She will not make
decisions for you or judge you. She simply will be by your side for what you need, even if
that means nothing more than being a silent witness to the miracle of life and transition of
woman to mother.

Basic doula package includes:

2 prenatal meetings (plus interview), labor and birth and 1 postpartum meeting.

Throughout your pregnancy I will be available for any questions or concerns you may have
(or just to check in) by either phone or email. I will be “on-call” via cell phone for you, 24
hrs day, the 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your due date.  All of this will be discussed in
further detail at initial interview.
What is a Doula?

Prenatal visits will discuss any issues you may
need help with , your birth plan, some
emotional processing, a time for me to meet
your doctor or midwife, go over relaxation
techniques or methods you have during labor,
meet with your partner, other birth
companions and/or children and get to know
each other. These two visits will be suited to
your needs.

Postpartum visit will include
processing of labor and birth, help
with breastfeeding, family bonding
and general newborn care
questions and closure to
doula/client relationship.

During your labor and birth I will provide encouragement and other forms of emotional
support to you and your partner in whatever ways we decided you may need during the
prenatal visits. I may suggest positioning, relaxation techniques, aromatherapy,
massage/acupressure and other comforting and pain management techniques. I will do my
best to uphold the wishes in your birth plan and clarify any information between you and
your care provider(s). I will advocate for you and inform you of your options, but I will
never make decisions for you. I will help you to empower yourself and take responsibility
for your birth. I will respect any decisions you make regarding your birth experience.

Again, this service is tailored to the needs of the new family. Generally, I would help detect
signs of possible postpartum depression and hopefully prevent it through education,
emotional support and giving everyone a chance to rest. I can provide help with newborn
care/ breastfeeding ideas, light housework such as dishes, laundry and tidying up, some
cooking, babysitting and postpartum mom care. Usually by appointment as needed . An
extremely valuable service as sleep comes at a premium these days!
