We’ve had it with dreamers. Head in the clouds, unconstrained by responsibilities, always thinking of ‘what could be’ and not ‘what is’. Whoever said being a dreamer was so good? John Lennon, with his ‘Imagine this, Imagine that’ nonsense. For most people in real life, dreamers are a damned inconvenience. Oh they might create a nice wedding cake or fashion a working flux capacitor, but you can’t rely on them, no sir.
We hired a couple of ‘dreamers’ a few years ago – an account manager and a digital designer, and now they’re off! Gone to follow another dream, and no doubt another one after that. I remember when WE were their dream, when we lived in a fluffy cloud over their heads and were the single-minded object of their desires. But after 2 years that dream became a reality, and dreamers don’t do reality. It’s too bloody tangible.
So we’re looking for a new designer and account handler, but you mustn’t be dreamers. You can have the DESIRE to join an exciting agency, the DRIVE to work with great brands, and the DETERMINATION to produce outstanding case studies – but it had better not be your dream. And if it is, it better be the last one you ever have.
If you lie awake at night wondering what the future holds, you’re perfect. But if you’re dreaming, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. It’s brown and tastes of reality.

I am guessing John Lennon would have little chance…?
